Paso fino mare, Consentida

My Experiences with

 the Paso Fino Horse

Paso fino filly, Salvada

When I got into my second childhood, I wanted horses again so I went searching for a horse to ride. I found a horse I could borrow. She was a hard mouthed rough old walker mare but I was quite content with her until the owner came back and reclaimed her. Then I had no horse to ride, I was lost, adrift and aghast. I had to go shopping! I knew  I wanted a really pleasurable horse, something not so rough or hard mouthed would be nice. I tried various walkers and then some foxtrotters as I could find those breeds in my area. I had done a lot of research on the net and read all bout the gaited breeds and was eager to try some more of them out. I saw and ad for a Paso

Fino so  I went to look at her.  She was a motley gray, pitifully thin, small and ugly. I had come a long way so I said, "What the heck, might as well ride her." Oh my what a nice ride, so smooth and so nicely trained. I was sold. I could live with ugly, small  and gray and I could fatten her up for a ride like that. Her name was Payaso and she must have had a traumatic past because she certainly had issues. She learned to trust but only me, No one else could easily ride her. By now I had other horsey friends who liked to ride.  I wanted a Paso Fino they could ride so they could experience the wonderful  Paso ride that I had. So I went shopping again. I found a stunning black Paso Fino mare.  Here was a horse with gorgeous looks, a fabulous gait, nice training and was in foal..a two for one deal. A few rides on her and I was sold.  She was way more money than I wanted to spend but I managed to talk myself into her with out to much guilt. Soon she was in my trailer on the way home. Her name was Consentida, affectionately called Connie.

Payaso, the thin, ugly and my first.

Connie, fun fabulous and feisty

My first Paso Fino, Payaso when I got her. Soon I had her fattened up and in much better condition. She was not lovely in looks or manners but gave a lovely ride.   My favorite Paso Fino, the tiny Connie. She may be just 13.2 hands but you can ride her in comfort all day long. She has spirit, personality and a huge heart.

Since these two mares, I have had several more Paso Finos. They have had different personalities yet have the same bit of Paso attitude. that of pride and a bit of arrogance. They know they are beautiful and special. The breed as a whole is very intelligent. They are easy to train and seem to like to learn. They are very people oriented.

This is Muneca de Verde. She is another of my paso mares. Muneca is the one that I give demo rides on. She is not as beautiful as some Paso Finos but handles nicely, on the ground and in the saddle. She is calm and very accepting of different riders. If you come to see one of my Pasos and would like to ride her, you are welcome to try the paso ride on this gentle, yet lively and definitely smooth mare. She has had several very nice foals and they have her nice quiet temperament; lively without being to hot. One of her foals, Alano is for sale.
