De's Cornex Cattery

If this looks like a house, that is because it is.

Our cattery is our home.

In our cattery, our cats are hand raised which means they are raised in our home as part of our family, any catteries cage their cats or put them in separate quarters away from people. This close association with people at an early age, makes for a better pet. From birth, our kittens think of people as part of their cat family and as a result they are very people-loving and affectionate.

Our kittens are carefully exposed to household hazards so the can learn what is safe and what is not, such as fireplaces, stoves and stair railings.

We also start training them on the kinds of things that are safe but that you would rather they left alone, such as kitchen counters and tabletops.

Our Mom cats usually teach the kittens to eat dry cat food but we carefully supervise weaning so no kitten gets weaned before it is able to eat a adequate diet on its own. We also use a variety of kitty litters so they learn to use more than one kind.

There are a lot of things for a kitten to learn about in a house such as stairs, a great place to play, and doorways, great places to explore, and about people, a great place to nap.

Here are two of our kittens at play.

These two are looking for trouble.

I get a lot of help doing things from the cats.

They gave me plenty of input as I was constructing this web page. One is always checking my work from on top of the monitor or on the mouse pad. I think they like to see themselves on the monitor.
